We love sharing Catawba Falls Events with the friends and family of our clients! David and I are the owners and operators of our lakefront venue, and we take great pride in how we present the grounds and venue to you. It is not unusual to visit Catawba Falls and see one of us (mostly David these days) pulling weeds, picking up trash, cutting the grass, and doing the cleaning or repairs. During events, we may be the person parking cars and greeting guests. Our goal is to provide our clients with an exceptional experience, and we will do whatever it takes to offer you our best hospitality.

A little about us…

We have been married for over 30 years. We have always enjoyed creating and building together (there is always a little {alot} disagreeing involved too). We have completed five projects together but Catawba Falls was our most challenging. We have a love for the outdoors and Golden Retrievers! Trek, on the left, is the younger of our two. Chase, on the right, is our grumpy old man. If they could have their way, they would greet every person as they arrive!

We are originally from Lancaster, South Carolina but have resided on Lake Wateree in Fairfield County for over 20+ years. If we can find a few days to get away, you will most likely find us in Burnsville, North Carolina. We love any place rural!

A little about our name…

Choosing a business name was one of our most difficult decisions! We involved family and friends by asking for suggestions for a name representing the area. (After months of going back and forth, I jokingly said we would call it “The Dam Venue”!-see photo for explanation)

Ultimately, we combined two parts of our region: the Catawba River and the history of the Great Falls = Catawba Falls. (Historically, the Great Falls of the Catawba were approximately 4 miles long, with a total elevation drop of 121 feet before the building of the dams along the river. The falls were a major landmark for the area during their day). Unfortunately, our name also brings folks from out of town looking for a waterfall!

A little about the building…

Building an event space for weddings and private parties has not been a lifelong dream.  Before creating and developing Catawba Falls, I had no experience in the wedding and events world.  I attended a wedding in late 2016, and while enjoying the reception and looking around at the facility, I thought, “We can do this”!  We already owned the property now known as Catawba Falls.  David jumped right in and began working on zoning and planning.  Approximately two years later, we broke ground.  David’s background has strong roots in masonry.  He represents the 5th generation in his family to work as a masonry contractor.  We knew we wanted to capture the essence of Southern elegance, and with his knowledge, we wanted a heavy emphasis on masonry.  We chose to showcase masonry and David’s heritage in the arches and a saw-tooth brick pattern with a tumbled Charleston Harbor brick accented by white mortar to represent the low country of South Carolina.  David’s main request during planning was an eye-catching large stone fireplace and he did not disappoint!  I wanted reclaimed lumber used in some parts of the building, but I tried to soften the rustic quality of old lumber with chandeliers and shiny wall sconces to provide elegance.  We did not want Catawba Falls to be just another wedding and events venue, we wanted it to become a beautiful space to serve as a backdrop for unforgettable memories and moments that our clients will create!

A little about the area…

Activities:  In 2023, Duke Energy opened the old riverbed below the dam for white water rafting along portions of the historic rapids.  Rocky Creek Sporting Clays, Edgewater Golf Course, Carolina Adventure World, and the Carolina Thread Trail are minutes from the venue.  Ample fishing is available.

Accommodations:  Catawba Falls Events is not located in the city.  We are situated on the south end of the Fishing Creek Reservoir on the Catawba River.  While the closest hotel is 15 minutes away, we are well worth the drive for privacy and the expansive oasis.   Airbnb and VRBO on Lake Wateree (Camden, Lancaster, or Fairfield counties) or Chester County are your best options for lodging in the immediate area. Lancaster has a wonderful Bed and Breakfast available as well.

Through this journey, we have met some incredible people in our clients, vendors, and construction trades.  Creating a space for others to enjoy has been a pleasure.  This is what we love about Catawba Falls, and we hope you will also come to love, enjoy, and build those memories while at Catawba Falls Events, just as we have!

Well, Hello Again…..

The Oak Amphitheater

Wow! What a view!

A walking/ cart path meanders through the wooded property down to the water’s edge, where you may find yourself sitting and enjoying the north winds flowing across the water.  Witnessing the ripples on the water as fish briefly break the surface or catching a glimpse of an Eagle, Osprey, or other birdlife circling the sky above - tranquil emotions of being one with your environment as you celebrate your special day.
